About CHAMPS - Climbing Higher with the Academy for Mathematics + Science
CHAMPS - Climbing Higher with the Academy for Mathematics + Science, is a week-long summer program for middle school girls and boys. It provides a stimulating environment so that mathematics and science is seen as interesting, relevant and related to careers and the real world. Students will participate in hands-on explorations and inquiry. There will be two separate CHAMPS Academies, one in Rialto and one in Fontana.Benefits/Activities
The focus of CHAMPS is mathematics and science as it relates to college and careers, including hands-on exploration and inquiry. The program is to empower girls and boys entering middle school with:- Knowledge about mathematics
- Knowledge about science
- Knowledge about community service
- Knowledge about mentoring and supporting one another
- Knowledge about preparation for college and success in the workforce
Students will receive various items during the week, including:
- Certificate of recognition
- Athletic bag
- Books
- T-shirt
- Water bottle
- Healthy snacks
Who
Students who participate in the program must be going into the sixth, seventh or eighth grade. An application packet must be filled out, which will include a teacher community member recommendation and parent permission. In order to participate, students should have a positive attitude and a willingness to participate in activities during all five days of the program.Parents or guardians must provide the student with transportation to and from the Academy location.
Parents or guardians are invited to participate in the awards ceremony on the last day of the program.
