About MATE/Desert MATE
MATE is a summer intensive program for 5th through 12th grade teachers. The program is designed to connect the resources of the University with the talents and vision of school districts, with the goal of addressing the needs of students in the area of mathematics.
MATE establishes a collaboration of professionals interested in improving student achievement in mathematics. This collaboration consists of:
- University professors
- District mathematics teachers
- University undergraduate students interested in teaching
- University graduate students interested in research
Participants are exposed to useful interactive classroom ideas which bring relevance and excitement to learning. Algebra, geometry and analysis form the core of the program as they are the keys to college entrance and workforce readiness as well as a foundation of understanding for many career choices. Participants are given a professional library of resource materials to be used in the implementation of new strategies for the classroom and a significant stipend.
