P-20 Regional Alliance

About P-20

The P-20 Alliance is an initiative that engages UCR with other organizations across the educational continuum to improve educational opportunities for students in the region. Partnerships that result from participation on P-20 councils and similar educational reform networks result in collaborative efforts targeting professional development for Inland Empire teachers who serve underrepresented student populations, establishing data consortia to enable data-sharing among institutions to inform program improvement and development designed to improve access to higher education, and providing students with opportunities in and out of school to enhance their academic preparation with a focus on preparing for higher education.

The two principle goals of the P-20 Regional Alliance are:

  • To increase the number and diversity of Inland Empire students motivated to attend and academically prepared for success in college; and
  • To improve teacher quality in Inland Empire schools.

In concert with state and national trends in educational reform, the substantive work of UCR's P-20 Regional Alliance has centered on mathematics education (high quality teaching and student achievement), with an increasing emphasis on secondary school reform, particularly with schools serving underserved and underrepresented student populations.

Data Consortium

UCR has also entered into an agreement to share data within the Partnership for Achieving Student Success (PASS) P-20 Data Consortium. The Data Consortium represents a group of institutions who have agreed to share data that informs the kind of decision making occurring within the Council about curriculum, programs and professional development.

P-20 Alliance Regional Breakfast

Every year the ALPHA Center hosts a P-20 Alliance Breakfast for Education Leaders in the Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. The purpose is to bring together interested professionals from K-12 and higher education institutions to discuss a particular theme pertinent to a contemporary education. The intent is to share knowledge and gather ideas in order create programs and develop policy which will improve student achievement thus strengthening the pipeline to college and/or the workforce. Past themes have included:

  • Building Bridges and Partnerships
  • Establishing a College Going Culture
  • Responding to the Crisis in Mathematics and Science Education

This year’s theme is Career Technical Education: Preparing Students for College and for the Workforce.

High School Student Research Initiative

Designed to creatively motivate the minds of high school students, the intent of the HSSRI is to build a community of scholars with interests in applied and research fields, and encourage students to become leaders in science related fields.

The program provides experiences in a laboratory, intensive educational enrichment, and a mentoring support system for high school students. These students will be prepared to pursue advanced college degrees and careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
