Programs for Teachers
The ALPHA Center works with teachers to help them become the best that they can be and help them instill a passion for math and science in their students. The center offers a variety of programs for elementary, middle, and high school teachers, both on the UC Riverside campus and at their respective school sites.
Our Programs
Climbing Higher with the Academy for Mathematics Performance (CHAMP)
CHAMP provides an educational environment where teachers and future teachers work collaboratively to create, demonstrate and test innovative instructional strategies in mathematics.
Mathematics Academy for Teaching Excellence (MATE)
MATE is a summer intensive academy of learning with follow-ups for teachers in content and pedagogical knowledge. Emphasis is on presenting relevant mathematical concepts, which are aligned with state/national standards, utilizing motivating and interesting strategies.
Mathematical Achievement & Collaboration for Teachers and Students (Mathematical ACTS)
ACTS is a 5-year project funded by the National Science Foundation, based on the partnership between UC Riverside and Jurupa Unified School District. The goal is to improve student preparation for and achievement in Algebra I, by providing professional development to pre-service and in-service teachers and by providing additional support and enrichment activities to students.
Science QUEST
Science QUEST is a week-long, full day program for 4th through 12th grade science teachers. The collaboration between these teachers, college professors, and undergraduates interested in research or teaching, fosters an integrated approach to teaching science, with a focus on current, relevant science topics with a hands-on approach.
